Quote: “The emergence of the information society has further expanded the scope of IE”
Ethics of computer has grown largely and has developed deeper than it was ever before because of the vast population of people hooking up to the Internet. The number of people using computers nowadays makes changes to ethics and makes it deeper.
Learning Expectation:
To be honest, this is the first time I learned that there was such a thing called Information Ethics. It really sounds esoteric to me, and surely for non-computer or IT enthusiast, it would sound like a word they think that doesn’t even exist. So basically, My learning expectation from this book, especially the first chapter, is to learn about Information Ethics.
Review:
The first thing the book talks about is an introduction. Well yes obviously, before the start pf anything else, there’s always an introduction but, as far as I remember, the previous books that I did a review on had either no introduction or just one at the very start of the book. This book (The handbook of Information & Computer Ethics) particularly has introductions at ever chapter. Now, what does that mean? I don’t know exactly but I think it’s because the main content of the chapter is really esoteric, so that I think requires an introduction.
Basically, what this first chapter of the book is explaining is all about Information Ethics. This chapter is like the basics and sort of an introduction to Information or Computer Ethics, whatever you call it. It’s all about things that you wouldn’t even believe exist. I mean, to me, what’s written on the book is very esoteric to me. Even the terms or words to describe something are really esoteric and most of which I’ve heard for the first time in my life. I’ve got to say that this book really makes you think or rather try your hardest to understand what was written. I honestly have to admit that I had to read like twice just to get the point or at least get something, which is based from my understanding. As a nineteen year old, I had a hard time getting what was written. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.
What I’ve learned:
Well, based on my understanding that is, I think I’ve learned the basics of Information & Computer Ethics. The most thing that I would like to express is learning how hard it is to understand this book… Or maybe that’s just me. On the brighter side, it’s only chapter one, so I think it just takes a while before it becomes easy. I just have to get the hang of it.
Questions:
1. What is techne?
2. What is Macroethics?
3. What is Ontocentric Ethics?
4. What does ecopoietic mean?
5.
