I think that it's fair becuase anyone has a right to sing a song, even though it is orginally compossed by another person. I don't think there's anything wrong with that and it shouldn't be muted by YouTube. As long as there is no harm done to the song or to the composser, it's okay to sing it. It will also benifit the composser for his or her song to get even more popular when people start singing it.
